Without software, your mobile computer is useless. Basic software that all truckers should have is inexpensive and pays for itself in most cases. The following is a list programs that I feel every trucker should have.
- Firefox - a better, safer Web Browser
- Knoppix - Linux that is bootable from a CD. Easily detect hardware problems with Knoppix
- Delorme Street Atlas USA 2008 Plus or Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008, - Don't get lost, get a mapping program
- Norton Internet Security 2008 up to 3 Users - Keep your computing safe
- Gimp or Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, Adobe Photoshop CS3if you can afford it. - Modify those road photos to get the most enjoyment from them
- Adobe Reader - Read PDF's, a common format almost anyone can use
- Microsoft Office Standard 2007 FULL VERSIONand/or Open Office - Do all of your office tasks from the truck
- Filezilla FTP - Upload your documents to your website
- CutePDF - make documents anybody with a computer can read no matter what software they have. All they need is the free Adobe Reader
There are many more that useful, such as DDL, Drivers Daily Log, but the abover are the programs that I must have to communicate and navigate. Learn these programs and you will be on your way to happier and easier trucking.
